Amy The Poop Detective

I know it’s probably hard to believe, but my first professional job was as a Poop Detective. It was a poopy job, but someone had to doo it! I found feces in the environment and then tried to rectify the situation.

I have always had a love for nature and especially water and I realize that humans and cats (and some other species) play an intricate part in this dynamic. Where is the balance between these crossroads? My education focused on our communities and the environment; I received a BA/BS in 2002 from The Evergreen State College.

I have found poop in the water from the Canada Border to the southern fingers of the Salish Sea and the outer coast of Washington. I have worked with many individuals that are trying to help us make it out alive! Their success stories often go unnoticed. I hope our Podcast becomes a conduit for sharing some of their stories. We will be highlighting the great stuff taking place in our Pacific Northwest backyards.

Alarm bells are ringing; climate change, species extinction and environmental degradation. If we want to make it out alive, we need more projects that restore the environment and encourage humans and cats to live more sustainably! So, please join us while we attempt to…make it out alive!

Jen the Magical Mapper

I have had a lifelong love of maps, and find them MAGICAL!  As a child, I was always the navigator on long, cross-country road trips, interpreting the secrets of maps to lead me and my cat family to various national treasures. I would sit and pore over atlases for hours, dreaming of vacations I would take to far-flung places.

Once I grew up, I went to school at Kansas State University to learn all about Geography and Environmental Sciences (which means I can BS in either subject), and then went back, earning a Master’s of Arts in Geography with an emphasis in Biogeography.

I have been getting paid to make and analyze maps and data since 1996, mostly for local governments, which also allows me the time and money to visit places of which I could once only dream. The earth is a spectacular place, but seeing animals dying off, beaches filled with garbage, seas rising, wide swaths of trees being chopped down, and other devastation has made this cat sad. Stories of restoration give me hope.

GIS now creates sparkly breadcrumb trails that lead me to sites in need of environmental restoration, and magically tell me how to best bring them back to their former natural glory. I would love to share the magical secrets with you so you too can participate in restoration and help the planet make it out alive!

Areas of Focus:
Project and Program Management, Training Design and Implementation, GIS Application Configuration, Geodatabase Design and Management, GIS Data Collection and Standardization, Bridging Divides, all sorts of Local Government subjects
